Donelson Neighborhood News – April 2016

There are three sidewalk projects coming to the heart of Donelson.  A community meeting was held last Fall about the project to connect Stanford Montessori to our Donelson Library.  Two other projects that are coming will be on Lebanon Pike connecting Bluefields Avenue to Graylynn Drive and one on JB Estille Drive connecting Lebanon Pike and Old Lebanon Pike.  Come learn more about these projects at a Community Meeting on Tuesday, April 26th at 6:30pm at Donelson Church of Christ in the chapel.  Thank you DCoC for hosting us!

The Nashville Civic Design Center and Transit Now Nashville are hosting a Ticket To Ride event on the Music City Star on Wednesday, April 20th, riding from downtown to Donelson on the 5:45pm train.  We will then walk up to Phat Bites for an event to promote transit and Downtown Donelson’s future.  See flyer below for details.

The Bridging Two Rivers Project is a Metro Arts Commission funded artistic endeavor that wants your input.  J. Dante Bard and Troy Duff have hosted two community input sessions, one at Papa T’s BBQ and one recently at Phat Bites.  Come on out to the final opportunity to give input into the project on Saturday, May 7 at the Two Rivers Skate Park from 12-4pm.

Excellent work by Maplecrest neighbors beautifying the corner of Maplecrest Drive and Fairway Drive near Stanford Montessori.  This was a project they’ve been working on for over a year and it’s going to look even better in the years to come as the evergreens and crepe myrtles take root and grow.  Thanks  to Maplecrest Neighborhood Association Dal Ellington along with neighbor Marie Anderson who designed the landscaping.

Many Spring Clean-Ups are happening.  On Saturday, April 16th, Richards & Richards at 1741 Elm Hill Pike is offering free shred-it and safe hard drive destruction form  9am – 1pm.  For more details, visit their website here.

There will be a Clean-Up of Elm Hill Pike and McGavock Pike on the morning of Saturday, April 23rd.  If you’re interested in being part of this team, contact District 15 Metro Beautification Commissioner at NFR1025@comcast.net.

Special thanks to these great neighbors for their advocacy and assistance with specific issues in the district:

  • Thanks to Lincoya Hills neighbor and Pennington Bend United Methodist member Wayne Dedmond for the excellent suggestion of better signage around the corner of Pennington Bend Rd near the church, an additional speed limit sign along with Concealed Driveway underneath will be installed in both directions to remind us of the sight-restricted turn and the need to slow down, especially with drivers entering and exiting the church driveway that is difficult to see.
  • District 15 Beautification Commissioner and Merry Oaks neighbor Naomi Regensburg noticed some using the flat area behind homes to drive into/out of the neighborhood from Atrium Way, so a 36-foot guardrail is being installed on the east side of Atrium Way to protect the neighborhood from this happening again.
  • Thanks to Jack Kirby for seeing that the Lock Two Park boat ramp was covered in mud and sand and boats were unable to launch from it.  I’ve asked Metro to perform the necessary maintenance as well as restripe the parking lot.
