Donelson Non-Profit News – March-April 2017
The Hip Donelson Farmer’s Market has big news for us for the upcoming 2017 season! The first change is that they’ll be open one month early on Friday, April 7th from 4-7pm, with a Grand Opening celebration on Friday, May 5th. Also coming to the market will be a “Farm 2 Car” option for those that want to order ahead and pick up at the market. Additionally, the Music Valley Farmer’s Market will be the second location at Music Valley Village located at 2416 Music Valley Drive behind Cracker Barrel. It will run from 9am to noon on Saturday’s beginning May 6th. See the full press release below for all the details. I look forward to seeing you at the Hip D Farmer’s Market!
The Two Rivers Mansion continues to preserve, restore and advance the 14-acre and surrounding property with the addition of signage and a beautiful fence that will stretch across the front of the property. That is made possible by a donation by Mr. William Bransford Blundin, who is a cousin of Mary Louise Bransford McGavock, the last member of the McGavock family to live in the home. Also check out the Two Rivers Mansion Master Plan, which was just released and yet another successful project led by the Friends of Two Rivers Mansion. This master plan will guide the preservation, restoration and advancement of the site for years to come. It’s a fascinating read and I encourage you to check it out.
I was happy to see GROW Enrichment make great progress on the area they are utilizing at Two Rivers Park in between the Dog Park and Two Rivers Middle Prep. They participated in a State-wide event called “Weed Wrangle” in helping clean-up Parks all across the State. Thanks to Goat Guys as well for donating their services in helping clear out that area of the Park. They gave a big effort of clearing out invasive species from an underutilized area of the park and it will serve as an educational opportunities and after-school programs for kids. I stopped by to lend a hand for a bit and below is the “Politician Action Shot” taken of me. J
Donelson Community Gardens is back and ready to rent out 4 x 8 raised garden boxes and participation in their communal row garden is open as well. You can even make a tax-deductible donation to sponsor a row as well. Visit their website registration page here for more info and to sign up to volunteer and/or participate.
Big thanks go to the Tennessee Beer & Wine Festival, who has donated over $125,000 to local charities. Just this past year alone they donated $30,000 to non-profits such as The Donelson Gateway Project, Fifty Forward Donelson Station, Buchanan Log House and others. These non-profits make a big impact in the community because of these donations, so please continue to support the TN Beer & Wine Festival, which will be held October 21, 2017 at Two Rivers Mansion.
