Donelson-Urban-Overlay Donelson Urban Overlay

You'll notice the red and white Metro signs along Lebanon Pike between Briley Parkway and Stewart's Ferry Pike in the Urban Design Overlay.  Over the last several months, some business and property owners and I have been meeting with the Planning Department in terms of streamlining aspects based on how its implementation has been going since its inception a decade ago. Changes have never been made to it and these are purely administrative, working in tandem with Planning and property owners. It does not change anything fundamentally with the vision and rather enhances the ease of its applicability when development occurs. A few duplicative elements are being removed as they're already been addressed in subsequent plans that have been created since then, such as NashvilleNext and the Walk-Bike Plan for Sidewalks and Bikeways.  I'm pleased and thankful for how Planning and property owners were all on the same page with this process.  It went before the Planning Commission on Thursday, June 26th and will next go before Council for three readings.  Please feel free to review the red-lined edits here and don't hesitate with any questions.

Congratulations to Mehaul Oleary and team on the grand opening of his new restaurant and pub, The Lost Paddy.  Located at 709 Spence Lane near Murfreesboro Pike, it’s a wonderful new addition to the district.  Thanks to the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting a great ribbon cutting.

Donelson Business News - February 2019

I was happy to join Mayor Briley, Ryman Hospitality CEO Colin Reed and members of Marriott’s leadership team to cut the ribbon on the new SoundWaves water park at Opryland.  Remember that there is a special Davidson County resident discount.

I joined the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and team at the Better Business Bureau on celebrating their move from downtown to Century City.  They very much needed larger office space as they’ve grown over the years.

Congratulations and welcome to Nashville Piano Rescue!  As a piano player, I’m of course very subjective, but they do fantastic work.  If you’ve ever wanted a piano but were afraid of the cost, go check them out.  They’re a great addition to the music shops that have come to town over the past few years like Blues Vintage Guitars and William’s Fine Violins & Luthiers.

Welcome Nashville Piano Rescue!

The Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce’s 11th Annual “Taste of Donelson-Hermitage” will be March 25th at The Inn at Opryland.  Call the Chamber at 615-883-7896 for more info or to save a space.

It fills me with great pride to drive past the former Papa Murphy’s building one morning with the sun shining down on it and an “Available” sign on it.  I have spent this entire term fighting against an attempt by a predatory lender trying to skirt regulations and illegally expand into this building, which would have degraded the character and quality of Donelson’s central business district and continued to exploit our most vulnerable neighbors.  I’m proud of the legislation I passed strengthening regulations and we finally defeated them in the court system as they left the building abandoned and instead challenged regulations up through the TN State Court of Appeals.  I’m very pleased to see these efforts have finally paid off and we will hopefully see a new business here that we can all be proud of and warmly welcome. For more info on this listing, visit here.

Check out this great coming soon video showing the progress of the building.  Thanks to Andy & Chad Baker for investing in Donelson!

A new business in the Music Valley area is AxeVentures.  That’s right.  Axe throwing!  Kind of like darts, but more exciting.  They offer leagues and more.  Check them out.

Zulema’s Kitchen opened their second location here in Donelson at the corner of Graylynn Drive / Lebanon Pike and has been a big hit.  Read more about them here in this article in the Tennessean.

Donelson Corner is in the process of receiving an upgrade and facelift and will encourage great new tenants at the shopping center as well.  I’m thankful to HJL Properties, run by the Eakes family, for making this investment.  Below is a rendering of what the completed project will look like.

Donelson Corner Revitalization

Two buildings at the corner of Graylynn Drive and Lebanon Pike have received a nice upgrade and renovation.  Deli Dogs & Sweet Treats at 104 Graylynn Drive serves delicious hot dogs, smoked sausage, grilled cheese and other favorites in addition to delicious desserts.  Right in front of the restaurant is the former Jackie’s Barber Shop that was painted to match the building behind it and is now Monty’s Barber Shop.  Both of these businesses will be having a Grand Opening for the community on Saturday, July 22nd, so please spread the word and come on out.

Music Valley has a new restaurant to try out and this one supports Veteran’s unemployment issue as well.  Semper Sliders offers a variety of sliders including beef, chicken, pork and Portobello.  They are located just under the Music Valley Village sign at the entrance.  You can’t miss the green trailer.  Below is a flyer with employment and more information about this new business and a check out this story from News Channel 5 here.

The proposed multi-family development across the street from Donelson Station was approved by the Planning Commission on June 22.  You can read the action agenda from the Commission here.  It will next be at the full Council for Public Hearing on Tuesday, August 1st.  Keep tabs with the Metro Council Agenda page.

The Kmart-anchored shopping center on Donelson Pike was sold recently for $5.8 million.  There are no current plans for any changes to occur with shopping center and Kmart is not closing.  Check out an article from The Tennessean here with more information.

Congratulations to The Nashville Palace on their 40th Anniversary.  Big thanks to John A. Hobbs for creating and supporting this now legendary music venue in Nashville and his grandson, Barrett Hobbs, for continuing on making it a place to showcase great talent, both up and coming and well-known.  I’m honored to present them a proclamation recognizing this mile stone later this year.  Check out an article from The Tennessean about this story here.

A number of folks have asked me what the parking lot at 1809 Lebanon Pike is going in across from the Clovernook neighborhood.  Ultimately, it is affiliated with the Mercedes Benz dealership being constructed at the I-40 / Briley Parkway interchange.  It will be an auxiliary lot for their operations.

Several have noticed some infrastructure pieces being brought in to the site that is being raised up near Mill Creek and next do Donelson Hills.  This development proposal passed in 2011 and they will only develop ten of the forty acres.  The ten acres will include 18,000 square feet of retail at the front and about fifty small homes behind it.  They’ve been building up the ten acres to be developed over the past several years to be at grade with Lebanon Pike.  The other thirty acres will be arbors, trails and wetlands and could connect to future parts of the Greenway system.  The development team recently secured a deal with Goodall Homes, a reputable Middle Tennessee builder, so hopefully the rate of progress on this site will continue to increase as we’ve seen over the past month or so.

Party Fowl is coming to Donelson at the old Johnson’s Furniture building and will be their second location in Nashville.  Owner Austin Smith grew up in Hermitage and his family attended Donelson Church of Christ, so he’s from a local family with a heart for the community.  Thanks to SmartSpace for bringing a great restaurant to a pivotal property into the heart of Donelson.  With a total of 13,000 square feet, 5,500 square feet will be on first floor with the restaurant & bars, plus a patio and roll up doors out to patio.  7,500 square feet will be on the second floor including a patio thru roll up doors.  The upstairs will also include banquet space, corporate offices and a catering commissary.  They’ve arranged for parking to be used at the office building across the street.  It will bring back to life and make the entrance into “Downtown Donelson” look fantastic.Party Fowl Coming to Donelson - Jeff Syracuse Metro Council District 15

Donelson Business News - June 2016

I had a great meeting with a few Google Fiber execs to learn more about the status of the installation and much anticipated roll out of their service.  They’ve completed the design of the network and as we’ve seen, have been busy building it.  This is a big undertaking!  Once complete, the network will include more than 3,200 miles of fiber, enough to stretch from here to Canada and back.  They are working hard to make disruption in the neighborhoods to a minimum.  They have a 24-7 Construction Inquiry Line at 877-454-6959 if you have any issues.  With the underground infrastructure going well, there are a few logistical issues to work through as far as the above ground wiring, but they are making good progress.  Sign up here to keep up to date with their progress and as soon as service is available, that’s how to get notified.

Bridgestone’s announcement to consolidate offices and expand their headquarters in a new tower downtown that will create over 600 jobs was one of the biggest announcements for 2014.  The 15th District is home to Bridgestone’s current headquarters and will be through 2017 while the new tower is constructed.  This also presents a great opportunity to find the next company to move into their current building and create even more jobs.

By now everyone has noticed that Johnson’s Furniture isn’t at 2620 Lebanon Pike anymore.  They’ve moved to Elm Hill Pike.  I’m excited that the new owner of the building is SmartSpace, who have done great things in Donelson by restoring buildings and giving them new life and beauty as well as filling them with great companies that provide solid career opportunities as well.  Thanks to SmartSpace President Floyd Schechter for sharing these renderings of what we have to look forward to seeing after the rehab is complete!  To inquire about leasing, contact Anthony Caduff at 615-251-8900.  The building will now be called the 2620 Building.
